Here in the US, it's Thanksgiving weekend. Many of us will be getting together with family and friends, hopefully remembering all the things we have to be thankful for. Many Doctor Who fans are gathering in Chicago for the Chicago TARDIS convention, or will race up there after Thanksgiving dinners. For the rest of the world - keep an eye on the internet while we're vacationing, ok? Now, back to the column.
BBC Radio 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/ now has its regular schedule online. Radio 7 is a digital station launching on 15 December that UK citizens with digital radios and TVs can listen to, as can people worldwide with some version of RealPlayer. The schedule is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/comedy/schedule.shtml , for those who want full details. Doctor Who - presumably starting with the 2 Jon Pertwee radio stories from the 1990s - was going to be one of the shows airing in the sci-fi programming block (The 7th Dimension). The 7th Dimension will air at the following times (all times UK, adjust for where you live):
Weeknights - 6PM to 6:30PM, Midnight to 12:30AM
Saturdays & Sundays - 6PM to 7PM, Midnight to 1AM

The drama section of BBC Radio 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/comedy/drama.shtml has the following blurb for The 7th Dimension, BTW: "7th Dimension leaves planet earth and enters the world of aliens, daleks, dragons and heroes - The Foundation Trilogy (Issac Asimov), Dr. Who, Tales Of The Bizarre (Ray Bradbury), Guards, Guards (Terry Pratchett), Pet Semetary (Stephen King), Blake's 7, and horror stories from 'The Man in Black'." When the page fully loads, a photo appears under the description with the TARDIS, Jon Pertwee in 'Doctor' pose, the radio cast from Hitch-hiker's Guide To The Galaxy reading a script, and a gold Dalek.
Pledge drive season is approaching for PBS stations. So expect some stations to pre-empt Doctor Who. Several stations are also going to feature Doctor Who in their pledge drives. WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH went first with a Doctor Who drive in late October. KTEH/KCAH 54,25 San Jose/Watsonville, CA had their pledge drive on November 24. Several pledge drives are still to come.
December 7 - KBTC/KCKA/K65BU 28,15,65 Tacoma/Centralia/Gray's River, WA
http://www.kbtc.org/ will be toasting the Daleks with The Dalek Invasion of Earth as the main feature. Their pledge goal is $15,000, though they're
willing to accept more.
December 7 - Iowa Public TV http://www.iptv.org/ is giving weekly reminders during Sci-Fi Saturday Night that they will have a special pledge night for its sci-fi programming. Starts at 11PM. Only the sci-fi programming will be pledged. Red Dwarf is already renewed for 2003-2004. In an interesting twist, they are handling other sci-fi shows (including Doctor Who) the way the show Survivor handles contestants. When people pledge on December 7th, they'll be asked to vote for a sci-fi program (Doctor Who, The Prisoner, Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, old sci-fi movies). Be warned. You are voting for the show that you want IPTV not to air in 2003-2004. More details at the fan site http://www.sffn.com/ . Interestingly, IPTV's website does not mention Doctor Who in the list of shows on the ballot. Hopefully they will have more information by next week.
December 14 - WSKG 46 Binghamton, NY http://www.wskg.org/ is giving Revenge of the Cybermen an all evening party from 9PM to Midnight. This is the first Doctor Who pledge drive on WSKG since this run of the series began.
Since the merger efforts between DirecTV http://www.directv.com/ and Dish Network http://www.dishnetwork.com/ were thwarted by regulators, the two satellite providers have started adding some of the local channels to their services that they said would have to wait till after the merger. On November 21st, two US TV markets where Doctor Who airs were added to Dish Network's service - Des Moines, Iowa and Colorado Springs, Colorado. If you live in the Des Moines area, you now have the option to get your local channels from Dish (including KDIN 11, the Iowa Public TV affiliate). In Colorado Springs, you can get local channels from Dish, but you WON'T get the Doctor Who affiliate, because K32EO is a low power repeater of KBDI 12 Denver, and satellite providers offering local channels to an area are not required to carry low power stations. KBDI 12 is carried in the Denver local channels package of both DirecTV and Dish Network. As of this writing, I am not aware of DirecTV's new cities including any markets where Doctor Who is on the air.

Doctor Who fans in the Omaha, Nebraska area with Dish Network should also be able to subscribe to Iowa Public TV in the near future as well. Omaha is one of three new markets which Dish started uplinking to their system this week, and the stations include Iowa Public TV. No date for the availability of the Omaha locals has been announced yet. Info about stations on satellite coming from http://www.dbsforums.com/ and http://echostar.swiki.net/52 (when it is working).
Some extra airings of the Doctor Who TV Movie (starring Paul McGann) have popped up in December.

While I try to keep the column up to date, I do sometimes miss late changes to schedules. If you see TWIDW's information getting out of synch with what your local station is actually airing, let me know ASAP.
